Volleyball Recap: East Hartford Takes a Loss

If East Hartford was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Sports & Medical Sciences Academy/Bulkeley on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hornets came up short against the Newington Nor'easters on Monday, falling 3-0. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Nor'easters apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

The 3-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by exactly three points. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-22, 25-22.

Josh Ikechukwu paced East Hartford's offense, picking up 17 kills. Ikechukwu got some help from Ethan Lopez and his 19 assists. Ikechukwu was also solid from the service line: he led the team with two aces.

East Hartford's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Newington, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Hartford will face off against Conard at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Wolves will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight. As for Newington, they will square off against Xavier at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
