Basketball Recap: Bandys Falls Despite Big Games from Addison Bell and Lexi Vaughan

After flying high against West Lincoln last Friday, Bandys came back down to earth. The Bandys Trojans received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 60-41 to the East Burke Cavaliers. The Trojans have struggled against the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Lexi Vaughan and Addison Bell certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Vaughan posted eight points in addition to ten boards and three blocks, while Bell went 5 of 8 on her way to 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That was a full 34.1% of Bandys' points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Haley Cross was another key player, putting up four points and five steals.

East Burke's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kara Brinkley, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Brinkley has been hot, having posted ten or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Braelyn Stilwell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten assists.

Bandys' defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for East Burke, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-1.

Bandys wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 72-44 victory against Lincolnton on the 31st. As for East Burke, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-44 win against Newton-Conover on the 31st.
