Basketball Game Preview: Baker Hornets vs. Fairhope Pirates

The Baker Hornets will face off against the Fairhope Pirates on Friday. Baker is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.8 points per game this season.

Baker heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Saturday. They fell to Mary G. Montgomery 55-51.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Parrias Baker, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 13 points and five boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Derrick Florence lll was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Baker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Fairhope earned a 52-40 win over Foley last Thursday. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Lions are ranked 111th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fairhope has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Baker, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-8.

Baker took their victory against Fairhope in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 76-50. Will Baker repeat their success, or does Fairhope have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
