Baseball Game Preview: Westfield Bulldogs vs. Centreville Wildcats

Westfield and Centreville are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs are taking a road trip to square off against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Centreville took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Westfield, who comes in off a win.

Westfield's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over South Lakes.

The result came thanks to AJ Pritchard's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Westfield is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Jonah Meyer was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Centreville fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Chantilly on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 6-5. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Michael Gambone was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Weber, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Westfield pushed their record up to 8-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Centreville, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5.

Westfield suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Centreville when the teams last played on April 9th. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
