Basketball Recap: Leesburg Takes a Loss

Leesburg lost against Winter Haven back in January of 2017 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Leesburg Yellow Jackets lost to the Winter Haven Blue Devils at home by a 65-51 margin. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while the Blue Devils are ranked third).

Amaya Shaw was nothing short of spectacular for Winter Haven: she dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Shaw a new career-high in points. Azzariah Styles was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine boards and three steals.

Leesburg dropped their record down to 6-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Winter Haven, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-2.

Leesburg will venture away from home to square off against Central Florida Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Winter Haven, they will welcome George Jenkins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. George Jenkins will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Winter Haven surely won't give up without a fight.
