Baseball Recap: Mason's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Mason dropped their record down to 18-3 on Saturday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the St. Ignatius Wildcats by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Comets of the 16-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Mason got a good showing from Jaden Bakhit, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Bakhit has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Mason saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Davies, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for St. Ignatius, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

On St. Ignatius' side, Brandon Rose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Brett Krugman was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Jacob Merheb was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

Looking ahead, Mason will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Centerville at 5:15 p.m. As for St. Ignatius, they will head out to challenge Mentor at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
