An exciting East v. West battle is about to be fought. The Shawnee Mission East Lancers will square off against the Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shawnee Mission East knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Shawnee Mission Northwest likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Shawnee Mission East didn't have quite enough to beat Olathe South and fell 57-55.

Meanwhile, Shawnee Mission Northwest faced Olathe Northwest in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Shawnee Mission Northwest came out on top in a nail-biter against Olathe Northwest, sneaking past 54-51. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Shawnee Mission Northwest's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Shawnee Mission East, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3-1.

Shawnee Mission East came up short against Shawnee Mission Northwest when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 68-57. Can Shawnee Mission East avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
