Football Recap: Arroyo Takes a Loss

Arroyo extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 2-6. They were beaten by the South El Monte Eagles 40-7. The Knights were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-7.

Arroyo lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sunny Chang, who picked up 95 receiving yards and one touchdown.

As for South El Monte, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The result was nothing new for South El Monte, who have now won three games by 26 points or more so far this season.

Leading South El Monte to victory were Gissell Morales and Janell Chavoya. Morales picked up 152 receiving yards and three TDs, while Chavoya threw for 165 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.5% of her passes. Morales was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 59 yards.

Arroyo didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 18-0 win against Alliance Marine-Innovation & Technology on the 13th. As for South El Monte, they have also already played their next matchup, a 13-0 victory against Gabrielino on the 15th.
