Football Recap: Keys Skates Past Commerce with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Adair, Keys was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They breezed past the Commerce Tigers to the tune of 41-6. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Keys' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Treveon Guthrie led the charge by rushing for 201 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Guthrie really tore up the turf during one magnificent 76-yard run. Ryder Davis was another key player, rushing for 115 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Keys was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 392 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Keys' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.0 points over those games. As for Commerce, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Keys will face off against Wyandotte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Davis and Hunter White. As for Commerce, they will challenge Adair at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' defense has only allowed 14.7 points per game this season, so the Tigers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
