Preview: KIPP Navigate College Prep Tigers vs. Summit Tahoma Tigers

KIPP Navigate College Prep has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Summit Tahoma Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Tuesday, KIPP Navigate College Prep came up short against Luis Valdez Leadership Academy and fell 42-32.

Despite the loss, KIPP Navigate College Prep saw an underclassman step up: Isaiah Hernandez scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. That's the first time this season that Hernandez pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Tran, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.

Meanwhile, Summit Tahoma didn't have too much trouble with Latino College Preparatory Academy at home on Tuesday as they won 47-32. The victory was just what Summit Tahoma needed coming off of a 59-32 loss in their prior matchup.

Summit Tahoma's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Salazar, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was David Pilling, who scored 12 points.

KIPP Navigate College Prep's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-6. As for Summit Tahoma, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: KIPP Navigate College Prep have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 13.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Summit Tahoma, though, as they've been averaging only 15.3 rebounds per game. Given KIPP Navigate College Prep's sizeable advantage in that area, Summit Tahoma will need to find a way to close that gap.

KIPP Navigate College Prep took a serious blow against Summit Tahoma when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 95-32. Can KIPP Navigate College Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
