The Leyden Eagles will challenge the Willowbrook Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
On Friday, Leyden got the win against Addison Trail by a conclusive 11-2. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by nine runs or more this season.
Elise Bertsche was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched. Bertsche was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kat Macleod, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ava Jamrozek, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Leyden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Willowbrook never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Berwyn/Cicero Morton with a sharp 10-0 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Allison Coppersmith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Liz Pettinger was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Willowbrook has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Leyden, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Leyden hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Willowbrook struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
