Sheridan and Eastern are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Blackhawks will face off against the Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sheridan will be strutting in after a victory while Eastern will be coming in after a loss.
Sheridan proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 13) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Tri-Central 7-6.
Sheridan let Amiyah Doss and Hayleigh Kemp run wild. Doss went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Kemp got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Anna Rusk, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Sheridan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Eastern came up short against Clinton Prairie on Tuesday and fell 8-3. The Comets have struggled against the Gophers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Eastern saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emillia Andrews, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Mackenzea Causey was another, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Sheridan's record now sits at 3-9. As for Eastern, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-11.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sheridan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sheridan might still be hurting after the 18-11 loss they got from Eastern when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Blackhawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
