Softball Recap: Community Trojans vs. Marion County Mustangs
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Community). Everything went their way against the Marion County Mustangs on Thursday as the Community Trojans made off with a 23-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jocelyn Curtis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). What's more, she also racked up three hits, the mostshe's had since back in September. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and a double.
In other batting news, Community got a massive performance out of Amy McCurdy, who scored four runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, McCurdy also racked up three hits, the mostshe's had in her last ten matches. Braelyn Kuda was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marion County only posted an OBP of .353.
The win made it two in a row for Community and bumps their season record up to 20-10. As for Marion County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Community will face off against Elsberry at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Elsberry's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Community's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Marion County, they will square off against Brashear at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
