York took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Oak Park-River Forest, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Dukes sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Huskies on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Avery Kanouse made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Kanouse was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gia Valentin, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Sara Steinecker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

York lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

York is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Park-River Forest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-8.

Coming up, York will be playing in front of their home fans against Proviso West at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dukes are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Oak Park-River Forest, they will face off against Lyons at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
