Basketball Recap: Bowne Gets the Win

Bowne had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They pulled ahead with a 55-54 photo finish over the Forest Hills Rangers. The win was all the more spectacular given the Wildcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 552nd, while the Rangers are ranked 95th).

Bowne's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Donte Cromwell led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The game was Cromwell's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Devin Harris was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards.

Bowne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Bowne pushed their record up to 7-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Forest Hills, with the defeat, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-3.

Bowne will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Eagle Academy II at 3:30 p.m. on February 21st. Forest Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
