Softball Recap: Wellington Wins Going Away Against Clearview

Wellington never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past the Clearview Clippers 11-0. Considering the Dukes have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mallory Pickering was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caedyn Wacker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Danica Borzy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Wellington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clearview only posted an OBP of .188.

The win made it two in a row for Wellington and bumps their season record up to 5-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Clearview, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.
