Baseball Game Preview: Montabella Mustangs vs. Breckenridge Huskies

Montabella is 1-9 against Breckenridge since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will welcome the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Montabella will be strutting in after a victory while Breckenridge will be coming in after a loss.

Montabella lost a heartbreaker the last time they played St. Charles, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Bulldogs on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Mason Bogart was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Brady Kieff was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryton Strohl, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Montabella was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Breckenridge came up short against Merrill on Monday and fell 4-1. The Huskies have struggled against the Vandals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Breckenridge's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13-2. As for Montabella, their victory bumped their record up to 6-15.

Everything went Montabella's way against Breckenridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Montabella made off with a 12-3 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
