Football Recap: Putnam City Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Putnam City had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yukon Millers. The Pirates were not able to make up for their defeat to the Millers from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

Despite the loss, Putnam City still got an impressive performance from Schuylar Turnbull, who rushed for 105 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Turnbull was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards. Savion James was in the mix too, providing Putnam City with two TDs.

Yukon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Wyatt Jones out in front who threw for 131 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 passes, and also rushed for 79 yards and one score on only nine carries. The Millers' leading receiver Daniel Yebit was Jones' top target yet again, picking up 102 receiving yards and three TDs.

Looking ahead, Putnam City will be playing at home against Putnam City West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Yukon, they will venture away from home to challenge Mustang at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
