Baseball Recap: Gulf Buccaneers vs. Gibbs Gladiators

There's no place like home for Gulf, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. Everything went their way against the Gibbs Gladiators on Wednesday as the Gulf Buccaneers made off with a 13-3 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Gulf considering their one-run performance the match before.

Jaidon Sopjack and Rowan Graziano made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Sopjack pitched an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Graziano struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Sopjack has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances. At bat, Sopjack scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5, while Graziano scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Robert Butler and Logan Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Butler went 3-for-4 with three RBI, a triple, and a double, while Smith scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Daniel Cruz, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

On Gibbs' side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Deandre Blunt, who went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Gulf's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Gibbs, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

Gulf will head out on the road to take on South Sumter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Sumter will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Gulf surely won't give up without a fight. Gibbs does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
