Baseball Recap: Danville Takes a Loss

Danville had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-23 to make it six. They lost 19-1 to the Urbana Tigers. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 7-3.

As for Urbana, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-19. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12th (when they won 22-0).

For Urbana's part, Corey Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Johnson a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Isaac Armstrong and Nico Wiemelt did most of the damage at the plate: Armstrong got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Wiemelt went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Urbana is undefeated when Armstrong posts two or more runs, but 2-19 otherwise. Dylan Pettit was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Danville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 14-2 loss against Casey-Westfield on the 17th. As for Urbana, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against MacArthur on the 20th.
