Baseball Recap: Hampton Roads Academy Wins Going Away Against Norfolk Collegiate

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Walsingham Academy, Hampton Roads Academy was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks with a sharp 24-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Navigators, who have now won five matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Connor Muse made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Hampton Roads Academy is 3-1 when Muse posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Graham Hutchens, who fired off two home runs, ten RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those ten RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Williams, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Hampton Roads Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.

Hampton Roads Academy's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-5. As for Norfolk Collegiate, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Hampton Roads Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 13-2 loss against Steward on the 10th. As for Norfolk Collegiate, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-5 defeat against Norfolk Christian on the 10th.
