Basketball Recap: Axtell Takes a Loss

Axtell was the 48-33 winner over Lawrence-Nelson when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Axtell Wildcats took a 42-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders on Saturday. The Wildcats' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.

Despite the loss, Axtell still got an impressive performance from Jacob Halvorsen, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Halvorsen is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Brandt Modlin was another key player, putting up six points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Lawrence-Nelson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aidan Zikmund, who went 5 for 7 en route to 13 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Cox, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards.

Axtell's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Lawrence-Nelson, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Axtell will face off against Arapahoe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Axtell is facing Arapahoe at the right time seeing as Arapahoe is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Lawrence-Nelson, they will square off against Diller-Odell at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
