Baseball Recap: Western Christian Wins Going Away Against Mountain View

Western Christian had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Mountain View on Saturday. The Western Christian Fighting Lancers blew past the Mountain View Vikings 12-4.

Dylan Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on two hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, James Mack was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reece Peters, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Western Christian has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. Mountain View's loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Christian will square off against Marshall at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Western Christian's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Marshall's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mountain View, they will take on Glenn at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
