Softball Recap: Eisenhower Comes Up Short

Eisenhower dropped their record down to 3-2 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 8-1 to the Salina Central Mustangs. The contest marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Eisenhower saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Hahn, who went 3-for-4 with one double. Aubrey Brunswig also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Salina Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That lines up perfectly with their 12-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

On Salina Central's side, Sophia Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Valerie VanZant, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most triples she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Gordon, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Eisenhower will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bishop Carroll at 4:00 p.m. on May 15. As for Salina Central, they will welcome Hutchinson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Mustangs' favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Salthawks have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
