Baseball Recap: Concord Bears vs. Northgate Broncos
Concord extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-13 in the process. They lost 13-1 to the Northgate Broncos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-2 on Tuesday.
Concord saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Machado, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
As for Northgate, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Considering they have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Northgate's side, Nate Luehs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Luehs has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Christopher Flores was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Mason Mierzwa also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
