Baseball Recap: Lincoln Southwest Takes Down Ranked Elkhorn South

Lincoln Southwest faced Elkhorn South in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Silver Hawks narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Storm 6-4. The win was familiar territory for the Silver Hawks, who have now won three games in a row.

Garrett Walsh looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Luke Mitchell was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brennan Vernon, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Lincoln Southwest lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Lincoln Southwest's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Elkhorn South, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lincoln Southwest will welcome Lincoln High at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Silver Hawks are facing the Links at the right time seeing as the Links are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Elkhorn South, they will host Buena Vista at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bison have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.29 runs per game on average), something the Storm will no doubt try to take advantage of.
