Basketball Recap: Bishop's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

Bishop and Mira Mesa squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Bishop's had to settle for second. They fell to the Mira Mesa Marauders 65-61. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while the Marauders are ranked 124th).

Diego Ortiz was his usual excellent self, going 8-for-17 to rack up 23 points and four steals for Mira Mesa. Ortiz continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cole Soriano, who posted 11 points.

With the defeat, Bishop's broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-14. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points over those games. As for Mira Mesa, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-5 record this season.

Bishop's does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mira Mesa, they have already played their next match, a 54-46 loss against Olympian on the 1st.
