Baseball Recap: Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter Comes Up Short

Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-8 to make it 11. They lost 14-4 to the Beech Grove Hornets. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Beech Grove, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Beech Grove's part, Griffin Matracia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Matracia has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Guerin Boshears was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Beech Grove is 2-1 when Boshears posts two or more runs, but 0-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brayden Cruse, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Beech Grove beat Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter by a score of 8-5 on Wednesday.
