Basketball Recap: Pueblo Central Comes Up Short

Pueblo Central lost against Mesa Ridge back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Pueblo Central Wildcats were beaten by the Mesa Ridge Grizzlies 51-20. The Wildcats were down 38-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Pueblo Central lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Leyla Padilla, who posted eight points.

Mesa Ridge can attribute much of their success to Maya Warriax, who went 6-for-8 on her way to 18 points and six rebounds. Mesa Ridge is undefeated when Warriax posts 15 or more points, but 4-11 otherwise. Annie Roberds was another key player, putting up six points.

This is the second loss in a row for Pueblo Central and nudges their season record down to 4-13. As for Mesa Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo Central will host Pueblo County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mesa Ridge, they will square off against Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mesa Ridge is facing Coronado at the right time seeing as Coronado is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
