Preview: Brookfield Warriors vs. Pymatuning Valley Lakers

Brookfield is 8-1 against Pymatuning Valley since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Brookfield Warriors will look to defend their home court against the Pymatuning Valley Lakers at 7:00 p.m. Brookfield will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.

Last Monday, Brookfield didn't have too much trouble with Garfield at home as they won 44-28.

Mya Jumper and Cailey Wellman were among the main playmakers for Brookfield as the former scored 14 points along with three steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Wellman is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Marae Craig was another key contributor, scoring two points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Meanwhile, Pymatuning Valley can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent game on Tuesday. They breezed by Harding on the road to the tune of 64-14. With that win, Pymatuning Valley brought their scoring average up to 50.5 points per game.

Pymatuning Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leah DeMoss, who scored 19 points along with two steals. DeMoss has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Paul, who scored 11 points along with three steals.

Brookfield's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Pymatuning Valley, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Brookfield have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Pymatuning Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything came up roses for Brookfield against Pymatuning Valley in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 74-36 victory. With Brookfield ahead 42-18 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
