Basketball Recap: Chicago Mt. Carmel's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

Chicago Mt. Carmel and St. Patrick squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Chicago Mt. Carmel had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the St. Patrick Shamrocks. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Caravan came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Shamrocks are ranked 46th).

When it comes to explaining why Chicago Mt. Carmel lost, don't look at Noah Mister. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-13 on his way to 22 points. Mister's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Keith Jenkins was another key player, putting up seven points and ten rebounds.

Chicago Mt. Carmel moved to 29-6 with that loss, which also ended their 11-game winning streak. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.9 points over those games. As for St. Patrick, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-7 record this season.

Chicago Mt. Carmel does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Patrick, they will challenge Brother Rice at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Brother Rice sitting on six straight wins and St. Patrick on 12.
