Basketball Recap: Alec Johnson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Parkdale

After losing to Parkdale the last time they met, Northern decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Northern Patriots skirted past the Parkdale Panthers 64-61. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Panthers are ranked 210th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alec Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Johnson is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Jeremiah Byrd was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 15 points.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tavonte Martin, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Wilson, who posted 14 points.

Northern's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Parkdale, their record now sits at 2-4.

Northern wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-64 win against Richard Montgomery on the 28th. As for Parkdale, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 90-85 defeat against Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North on the 28th.
