The Clinton Central Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the Sheridan Blackhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clinton Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Clinton Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Faith Christian on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 10-9.
Nuriah Harvey was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. Harvey was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Carly Davison made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sheridan). They put the hurt on Herron with a sharp 17-9 victory on Monday. The Blackhawks not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 13, 2024 (when they won 25-10).
Like Clinton Central, Sheridan also got a great game from a two-way player: Norah Adams. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Adams has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three doubles. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Ali Pickard was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Lainey Mendenhall was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Sheridan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .541. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Clinton Central has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. Sheridan's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6.
Everything went Clinton Central's way against Sheridan when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Clinton Central made off with a 16-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
