Basketball Recap: NSU University Beats Archbishop Mccarthy for Their Fifth Straight Victory

NSU University waltzed into their match on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks as they made off with a 64-40 win. Given the Sharks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Mavericks are ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

NSU University was led to victory by Laly Luque and Tatum Billie. Luque went 8 of 13 on her way to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks, while Billie went 5 for 7 en route to 13 points and four steals. Billie has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlize Coats, who posted 11 points and four steals.

NSU University smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

NSU University's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Archbishop McCarthy, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

NSU University will face off against Somerset Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Archbishop McCarthy has already played their next game, a 74-41 loss against Schoolhouse Prep on the 25th.
