Basketball Recap: Academic Magnet's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Academic Magnet had lost three straight headed into Tuesday's game, but Sophia Benich didn't let it get to four. The Academic Magnet Raptors narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Andrews Yellowjackets 48-45 thanks in part to Benich, who posted 18 points and five steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Academic Magnet's points.

Another player making a difference was Lindsey Griffin, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (two).

Despite the loss, Andrews still got an impressive performance from Shaniya Coachman, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Academic Magnet's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-9. As for Andrews, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.

Academic Magnet wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 59-39 loss against Timberland on the 31st. Andrews has also already played their next contest, a 33-22 defeat against Woodland on the 31st.
