Baseball Recap: Bellevue East Comes Up Short

Bellevue East extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 11-15 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Kearney Bearcats. The Chieftains were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bearcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Connor Dolezal was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

As for Kearney, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

On Kearney's side, Owen Waha tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk).

On the hitting side, Kearney saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Andersen, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Bellevue East will take on Papillion-LaVista in a tournament on Thursday. As for Kearney, they will take on Standing Bear at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Bearcats surely won't give up without a fight.
