Softball Recap: Capitan Takes a Loss

Capitan dropped their record down to 11-9 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 24-0 to the Loving Falcons. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Loving, the victory (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 20-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games.

For Loving's part, Capitan's batters probably weren't too happy with Braylee Hunt, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (she gave up a single walk). Hunt has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sierra Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Olyse Gonzalez was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Capitan wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-7 victory against Lordsburg on the 14th. As for Loving, they have also already played their next match, a 3-1 loss against Hozho Academy on the 14th.
