Basketball Recap: Ash Fork Takes a Loss

If Ash Fork was riding high fresh off their 59-28 takedown of Music Mountain last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ash Fork Spartans came up short against the Mogollon Mustangs on Saturday, falling 59-35. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.

Despite the defeat, Ash Fork saw an underclassman step up: freshman Isabella Acosta posted eight points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Acosta is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season.

Kindsey Porter was a one-woman wrecking crew for Mogollon as she put up 21 points and six steals. Those 21 points gave Porter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marissa Parry, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 15 points and four steals.

Ash Fork's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-7. As for Mogollon, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Ash Fork will be playing at home against Mayer at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mogollon, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 38-31 win against St. Johns on the 14th.
