Baseball Recap: Archbishop McNicholas Rockets vs. Archbishop Alter Knights

After flying high against Williamsburg last Wednesday, Archbishop McNicholas came back down to earth. The Archbishop McNicholas Rockets fell 7-4 to the Archbishop Alter Knights on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Archbishop McNicholas of the 7-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Nate Colyer was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 7.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Colyer was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his seven plate appearances with a stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stolen at least one in the last five games he's played.

Colyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Steven Jostworth, who scored a run while going 3-for-5. Connor Powderly was another key contributor, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Even though they lost, Archbishop McNicholas didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 14 strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.

Archbishop McNicholas' defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Archbishop Alter, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-5.

Archbishop McNicholas will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Anderson at 11:00 a.m. As for Archbishop Alter, they are on the road again on Saturday to play Valley View at 11:00 a.m.
