Baseball Recap: John Marshall Takes a Loss

John Marshall had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-9 to make it five. They lost 11-2 to the Thomas Jefferson Vikings. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Justices of the 16-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Thomas Jefferson, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-4. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won five matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

For Thomas Jefferson's part, Markus Ingram made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Ingram was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Coppola, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Graeme Cox, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Marshall will host Meadowbrook at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Justices are facing the Monarchs at the right time seeing as the Monarchs are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Thomas Jefferson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Huguenot at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.88 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of.
