Basketball Recap: Isaac Willoughby's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lawson over West Platte

Lawson came up into this matchup off a tough 20-point defeat last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the West Platte Bluejays by a score of 59-56 on Tuesday. The Cardinals were probably out for revenge after losing 56-36 to them when the teams met back in February, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lawson lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Isaac Willoughby, who went 9 for 14 on his way to 24 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Willoughby a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Grote, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 17 points.

Lawson now has a losing record at 1-2. As for West Platte, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Lawson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-47 loss against Plattsburg on the 11th. As for West Platte, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
