Softball Recap: Edgewood Wins Going Away Against Monroe

After losing to Monroe the last time they met, Edgewood decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cougars were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Hornets on Monday.

Jaycie Broshear was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Evie Short and Evelyn Henson did most of the damage at the plate: Short went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Henson went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Henson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Rylee Kallick, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Edgewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Edgewood's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-13. As for Monroe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Edgewood will welcome Ross at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Monroe, they will host Mercy McAuley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
