Baseball Recap: Highland Tech Comes Up Short

Highland Tech was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cherryville Ironmen. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Ironmen this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 last Tuesday.

Grayson Lunsford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cooper Hartis made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Highland Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Cherryville, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.

Coming up, Highland Tech will challenge Mountain Island Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cherryville, they are taking a road trip to face off against West Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
