Softball Recap: Greater Nanticoke Area Takes a Loss

Greater Nanticoke Area extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-14 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Old Forge Blue Devils. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 13-0 to the Blue Devils when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Greater Nanticoke Area saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley Verazin, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.

As for Old Forge, they pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games.

On Old Forge's side, Kamryn Notari made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Notari has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joselyn DeStefano, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Danica Pritchyk, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Greater Nanticoke Area will be playing at home against Elk Lake at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Old Forge, they will head out on the road to square off against Riverside at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.53 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
