Softball Recap: Vernon Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Vernon barely beat Newton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Braves on Thursday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Braves recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Miranda Ebbighausen made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Kaitlyn VanBlarcom was incredible, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth ?E? Peek, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Vernon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newton only posted an OBP of .231.

Vernon's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.8 runs. As for Newton, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vernon will venture away from home to take on Pompton Lakes at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Newton, they will head out to face off against Sussex County Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
