Baseball Game Preview: Silverado Hawks vs. Glendora Tartans

The Silverado Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Glendora Tartans at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Silverado managed to slip by Granite Hills the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Hawks came up short against the Cougars on Friday, falling 9-3. The Hawks' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Jace Weiss was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. Weiss was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Weiss wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Steven Gomez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Glendora ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Claremont, sneaking past 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Tanner Grable tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Glendora has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Silverado, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Silverado has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Glendora struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
