Baseball Recap: Covington Extends Winning Streak to Four

Covington had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They put the hurt on the South Vermillion Wildcats with a sharp 10-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Davyn Green, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Covington is 7-1 when Green posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cian Moore, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Covington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.

Covington's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for South Vermillion, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-12.

Looking ahead, Covington will venture away from home to square off against Danville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Vermillion, they will host Terre Haute North Vigo at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
