Baseball Recap: Montour Takes a Loss

Montour had to start their season on the road on Saturday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 6-3 to the Northside Christian Mustangs. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Montour got a good showing from Zander Stern, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Andrew Porto was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Northside Christian's victory bumped their record up to 6-7.

Looking ahead, Montour will take on St. Raymond Boys at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. As for Northside Christian, they will be taking part in a tournament against Gateway Charter on Monday. Gateway Charter has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.33 runs per game on average), something Northside Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of.
