Baseball Recap: Mabel-Canton Takes a Loss

Mabel-Canton was the 7-5 winner over Hayfield when they last played one another back in May of 2025, but their luck changed this time around. The Cougars took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings on Thursday.

Mabel-Canton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kale Tollefsrud, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Mabel-Canton has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Hayfield, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

Mabel-Canton and Hayfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Cougars (ranked 230th) will meet Southland (ranked 22nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hayfield will square off against Lyle/Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (215 vs. 49).
