Baseball Recap: D'iberville's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

D'Iberville's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Ocean Springs on Saturday. The Warriors came out on top against the Greyhounds by a score of 5-2. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Greyhounds on Friday, they had to take a 6-5 defeat.

Corbin Smith looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. D'Iberville is 2-1 when Smith allows one or fewer hits, but 8-14 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaylen Johnson, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of D'Iberville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 7-14 when he doesn't). Carter Naron was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

D'Iberville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

D'Iberville's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-15. As for Ocean Springs, they moved to 19-5-1 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. D'Iberville will challenge rival St. Martin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ocean Springs is set to face off against their familiar foe Gulfport at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Greyhounds 2.5, the Admirals 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
